In honor of Fat Tuesday/Mardis Gras -I came up with a King Cake cheat cake. The original King Cake Recipes are very time consuming. So this recipe fits well in my schedule.
You will need:
One can of Cinnamon Rolls w/Icing (store brand or Pillsbury)
Almond paste (comes in a can near pie fillings)
Nuts (optional)
Take Cinnamon Rolls out of can, they usually come in a can of eight (which made 2 small King Cakes) , unroll the rolls to make strands, braid 3 strands together and shape into a round. Do the same with another 3 rolls. With the two remaining rolls place them inside the braided roll round using the almond paste as "glue" this is where you can add nuts if desired (in between the braided roll and the round roll). Bake according to Cinn Roll directions. Let cool, place the "King" (baby Jesus) inside (I buy them in bulk from Party City) add icing and colored sugars (purple-justice, green-faith and gold-power). YUM!
